I have month-to-month agreements that have lasted for over 10 years (and still going) where I act as a client's marketing director. I also conduct consulting services under specific agreements limited to certain tasks within a short-term duration. 

I have developed and implemented plans for companies, then turned everything over to their employees. I also have companies that keep me on a small retainer to perform services as needed or to be another set of eyes offering another perspective in order to make a prudent decision.
